Sailor Mercury Cast List
Mizuno Ami and Sailor Mercury bring a lot to the Sailor Senshi team- though quiet and reserved, Mercury lends support through brain rather than brawn to help the senshi succeed. Opinions on each of these actresses are found at innocent-ami, if you are looking for some well-rounded opinions on this role. There have been several actresses to play Mercury in SeraMyu, and here they are:

Ayako was the first Sailor Mercury to play in the series and also the longest-running, playing Mercury from 1993-1998. As the first to play the complex character of the soft-spoken but strong Sailor Mercury, Ayako brought depth to Mercury as well as setting the standard for her predecessors. Ayako was good friends with Ooyama Anza (the first actress to play Sailormoon in the musicals) and they even created a group together called "MoMo" as well as starring in some commercials together.

Ayako is the second-place fan favorite, but barely only beaten out by Kawabe Chieko. As Sailor Mercury, Ayako played the character subtly at first but grew and gave Ami more depth as the musicals continued on, making the Ami more mature from her first season musical to her final musical under Ayako.

After she finished her time as Sailor Mercury, Ayako took places in films such as The Poet in 1998, and before Myu she was involved in the Sakurakko Club (a Jpop Idol group) in which she was on television regularly. However, I haven't found anything about more recent works than that. -_-;

Trivia:

  • Ayako is tied for the 5th longest running SeraMyu performer with 382 stage performances.
  • Ayako was a member of Moon Lips, a group of Myu performers who performed the version of "Moonlight Densetsu" used during the S and SuperS season of the anime.

Yukiko was the second and tied for shortest-lived Sailor Mercury in SeraMyu. There really isn't a lot of information about her, even finding pictures of her is difficult.

Ayako is often either not mentioned when talking about the favorite for Sailor Mercury, or she is described as lower-tier range popularity. Part of this could be due to her only performance being in one of the least popular musicals to show.

I'm not sure what Miyagawa has been up to since SeraMyu, though her wiki profile says that she is a bikini idol and has released a handful of photo books and CDs.

Hisano played Mercury from 1999-2000. She interpreted the Ami role differently than the other actresses and was one of the first to really implement her own personality to merge with Ami's. As a result, this Ami was more out-going, standing out more in the crowd than before as well as bringing a sort of sexiness to Sailor Mercury.

Hisano doesn't stand out as a fan-favorite, and she isn't often mentioned specifically when speaking about Ami's character. However, she was part of the fan-favorite collective of actresses that made up the most believable best inner senshi group.

More recently, Hisano has been trying to be an idol, and according to the SeraMyu News Blog she has recently started posting on the JAL Okinawa Blog to promote tourism to her native island.

Mariya played Sailor Mercury only in the year 2000, and had just a single show for her name (making her, along with Yukiko, tied for shortest lived performances as Mercury!)

Mariya was the youngest actress of all the Mercurys, working at the tender age of 12, and a lot of fans felt like this reflected poorly upon Ami's character, making her seem vocally and physically weaker next to the older and more developed performers around her.

Following her SeraMyu performances, she joined the vocal group KING and followed that up with a modeling career.

Behold the reigning fan-favorite myu Mercury. Chieko played Ami from 2001-2002 (and the Fan Kansha event in 2000, also) and brought to the role the soft and sweetness of Ami with the inner strength of will. Both her dancing and singing were excellent, it's no wonder she became a fan-favorite.

Chieko also introduced the Sailor Mercury image song "Drive Me the Mercury", and in her very first musical.

Following her SeraMyu performances, Chieko has had a healthy career as a pop idol in Japan. She has released several CD singles and photo books, as well as making different television and other performances. Fans of Sailormoon noted that she was also the only Myu alumni to make an appearance in Pretty Guardian Sailormoon, playing the recurrent role of Osaka Naru in the live action series.

In August 2008, Chieko married producer Ochi Masato and has since changed her name to Ochi Chieco.

Wakayama Manami as Sailor Mercury and Out of Costume Profile:
    First Name: Manami
    Last Name: Wakayama
    Birth date: December 11, 1986
    Birthplace: Tokyo, Japan

Good With: Observing People, Dance, Water Sports
    # of Myu Performances: 185 (as Sailor Mercury) More Information:
Manami's Profile [Japanese], , Wakayama Manami at Wiki.thePPN

Manami portrayed Sailor Mercury from 2002-2005, finishing up the role of Sailor Mercury unless the musicals are revived from hiatus status. Prior to her role as Sailor Mercury, she played a slightly less significant role as Beruche in Tanjou! Ankoku no Black Lady (Kaiteiban).

Manami is generally more popular for her portrayal of Beruche than of Sailor Mercury, but she still has many fans. Her acting was good, but she stood out more than Ami usually would (or should) and seemed just a tiny bit off from perfect.

Post-Myu Manami works as a bikini model and has produced a couple DVDs and photobooks. Also as recently as 2007 she was cruising on the Cool Boat around Tokyo Bay and performing as a Yakuta Dancer.
