Sailormoon Cast List
Sailormoon had four different actresses playing her role in the 12 year span, each bringing her own separate flair to the part. The names are all listed Japanese style, that is surname first. Here's some info on each of the girls to don the odango atama:

Anza was the first actress to play Sailormoon in the musicals, and also the longest running Sailormoon. She played our favorite odango atama from 1993-1998. Anza was also part of the group 'MoonLips' who recorded the vocals for the version of Moonlight Densetsu used as the OP theme of the anime's S and SuperS seasons. Among fans, the time Anza acted as Sailormoon is considered the 'first stage'.

In general, Anza and Marina are about tied up as the fan-favorites who played Sailormoon. There seems to be an equally large camp who will defend either one as their favorite moon from SeraMyu. Anza's version of Usagi is quite good, and especially as she progressed and really understood the character Anza's performances were excellent. She had the ability to combine the comedy and flakiness of Usagi with the subtle determination of Sailormoon. Anza's Usagi was silly, flawed, klutzy, and not especially gifted at any of the typical talents that are prized in society. Still, she was also genuine, a great and loyal friend, and a strong-willed fighter.

After she finished her time as Sailormoon, Anza worked in several other theatrical facets, including starring in musicals such as Les Miserables (in Japanese) and Madam Saigon. More recently, Anza has found herself busy as the lead singer in the rock band "Head Phones President".

Trivia:

  • Anza is tied for the 5th longest running SeraMyu performer with 382 stage performances.
  • Anza was a member of Moon Lips, a group of Myu performers who performed the version of "Moonlight Densetsu" used during the S and SuperS season of the anime.

Fumina was the shortest running moon and it is generally agreed that she's the least popular of the actresses to play Sailormoon. (I really don't have an opinion to share, that is just the general accepted idea). However, those who do like Fumina are fiercely loyal. She only played Usagi and Sailormoon from 1998-1999, with only a few different shows under her belt. Among fans, the time Fumina acted as Sailormoon is considered the 'second stage'.

She had a shaky start in the role, and her first musical, Shin Densetsu Kourin is typically considered one of the worse ones. However, when she came back with Kaguya Shima Densetsu, she proved that she could certainly handle the role well and was very entertaining to watch. In the Kaiteiban of that musical, she took the role of Neo-Queen Serenity to a new level and is most often cited as the favorite for that role.

Following her work as Sailormoon, Fumina went the way of a Japanese idol- specifically, a gravure idol (typically an idol who is modeling bikinis and is usually photographed in them or other similarly skimpy outfits, but usually doesn't do any actual nudity) and as such has appeared in films, magazines, etc etc. Fumina has released photo books and some cd singles as well.

    Studio Profile [Japanese]

Miyuki played Sailormoon from 2000-2001. She is the third favorite actress of those that played Sailormoon, (her popularity was slightly less than Marina or Anza's, but it is usually more than Fumina's) and she seemed to revive the quirky-ness of Usagi that seemed to fade during Fumina's performances. Miyuki was younger, starting her work as Sailormoon at the age of 15. She was by far the most energetic Sailormoon, and spoke quickly and seemed to bubble over with enthusiasm. Some people dislike her because it is rumored that she is difficult to work with. Among fans, the time Miyuki played Sailormoon is known as the 'Third Stage'.

Following her work as Sailormoon, Miyuki went on to standard work in the business; working on various television productions including Kamen Rider Hibiki and Battle Royale II. She also released two CD singles in 2003, and sang the first two opening themes for Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch.

In June of 2008, she had to drop out of a role as Eponine in Les Misérables due to poor health. Although the production hadn't started yet when she left them, there was a standing offer for her return to the role. Sadly, Miyuki passed away June 18 at 4:08 AM due to heart failure. She died at the young age of 24.

    Trivia:

  • Everybody wants to be Sailormoon! Miyuki had to compete against 500 applicants before winning the role.

Marina actually made her debut to show-business through the SeraMyu performances. She is the second longest-running Sailormoon actress, running from 2001-2005 and the youngest to play the heroine as she started at age 12 (!!!) and ended the musicals at age 16. She is tied up in popularity with Anza for the most beloved Moon Myu actress by the fans. Among fans, Marina's time as Sailormoon is known as the "fourth stage" or occasionally the "final stage" (I call it the fourth stage to be optimistic-- perhaps someday there will be a musical revival ^_^).

I haven't seen enough of Marina to make an assessment of her take on Sailormoon, but when I have I'll add that to this area. ^_^

Following her work with SeraMyu, Marina has been working diligently to become a Japanese idol. She has had photo books, and CDs as well as working with various television programs, etc.
